Description
Green-e does not provide emission factors in the way that government agencies like the EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) or IEA (International Energy Agency) do. Instead, Green-e plays a role in certifying renewable energy and carbon offsets, which impacts how organisations calculate emissions under the market-based approach of the GHG Protocol. Residual Mix and Default Grid Emission Factors
If a company does not buy Green-e certified RECs or other contractual instruments, it must use either: A residual mix factor (if available) reflecting the emissions of the remaining grid electricity after factoring out renewable energy claims. The location-based grid average factor (e.g., from the EPA’s eGRID for the U.S.).
